2010-2011 Information!

Saks High School Band

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS AND PARENTS

Greetings!

I am excited about beginning my 8th year working with the Saks Band.  We have much to do to prepare for marching season.  As I’m sure you are already aware, great performances do not happen without much preparation, dedication and hard work.  Below I have listed the schedule we will follow this fall.  Look at it very closely so you will know when you are to report.  We need each and every member present in order to realize any success that is ours to achieve.  We will be putting the show on the field during camp. Attendance is required. Please make any problems regarding attendance known to me as soon as possible!

2010 Camp Schedule

July 26-30 (8:00-4:30)   Full Band

    Aug. 2-3 (8:00-4:30)  Full Band

    Aug. 4th (1:00-3:00)  Full Band

    Aug. 5th (1:00-6:00)  Full Band (5:30) (Perform for Parents & Friends)

    Aug. 9    First Day of School!

            • As a rule, the full band will practice after school each Monday, Tuesday, and

            • Thursday from the end of school until 5:00pm – Wednesday’s practice as needed.

Please note the following about band camp:

  • Tennis shoes are required to be worn at all times (No sandals, flip-flops, or bare feet)
  • Wear comfortable clothes in keeping with school policies and adequate protection from the sun.  (Please bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen!)
  • Instruments should be in good working order with all necessary equipment. (Reeds, Valve Oil)  Percussion Members MUST have their own personal sticks & mallets each day!
  • Students may bring coolers with drinks. (No Glass bottles or containers. Water is best!)
  • Lunch will be from 12 Noon to 1:00PM on full days. (Students are asked to bring a sack lunch, but will be allowed to leave with WRITTEN PARENTAL PERMISSION - Parents please be very clear about transportation arrangements.  (TARDINESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.)

There is the only one style of shoe allowed for performance with the SHS band. The students will be sized and shoes ordered July 28th at the cost of $30.00 a pair.  Veteran members should check your shoes for correct size (your foot may still be growing) so you can order new ones if need be.  (Make all checks payable to Saks Band Boosters). White gloves can be purchased from the band boosters @ $3.50 a pair as the need approaches.  (The band camp fee is $75.00 payable to “Saks High School Band” (your child will be receipted through the Saks High School Band account in the main office…the monies will be used for music, instructors, and transportation to and from games).  The uniform fee is $25.00 payable to “Saks Band Boosters”) (There is an adjusted fee for auxiliary members T.B.A.  Fees are due at band camp.) Remember students, band pictures are made July 30th during camp and these pictures are used in programs, annuals, ETC.
